Frank Welfringer, a high-level sports agent specializing in football, has built a career on guiding athletes through every stage of their professional journey. His extensive expertise and international network provide tailored support to help players unlock their full potential. Dedicated to fostering sustainable careers, he ensures that each athlete he represents benefits from a strategic, individualized approach — both in sports and in business.
Championing Women’s Football in Morocco
— What was the defining moment that led you to focus on women’s football?
— After visiting Morocco multiple times, I witnessed firsthand the growing enthusiasm for women’s football. I saw talented players who were deeply passionate but lacked the same professional structures and opportunities as their male counterparts. That realization led me to make a decisive choice to settle in Morocco and contribute directly to the development of women’s football. My goal has always been to create an environment where female athletes can thrive, receive the recognition they deserve, and access the necessary resources to elevate their careers to an international level.

— What strategies do you use to help female players develop not just their physical skills but also their mental resilience?
— Achieving excellence in sports requires more than just talent—it demands mental strength, discipline, and resilience. Our approach is built around three core pillars: technical skills, physical conditioning, and psychological preparation. We work with experts, such as Asmaa Niang, a former African judo champion, to provide mental coaching that enhances concentration, stress management, and confidence. By addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of performance, we ensure that players are not only prepared for competition but also equipped with the mindset to navigate their careers successfully.
Expanding into MMA: A New Challenge
— Why did you decide to enter the MMA market, and how does its management fundamentally differ from football?
— During my time in Morocco, I observed a rapidly growing interest in MMA. The sport’s expansion and the enthusiasm of local athletes made it clear that there was enormous potential to develop professional structures here. Unlike football, which operates within a collective framework with leagues and established teams, MMA is highly individualistic. Each fighter requires a unique strategy in terms of training, career management, and branding. That’s why I partnered with experts like Hichem Gomzi, UFC’s sports director, to help professionalize the sport and create pathways for Moroccan fighters to compete on the global stage.
Driving Investment in Women’s Sports
— What is your strategy for attracting more investment in women’s sports through sponsorships?
— Bringing investment into women’s sports starts with building credibility. Sponsors need to see a well-structured and high-impact project. That’s why we focus on increasing media exposure, telling compelling athlete stories, and positioning women’s football and MMA as exciting, competitive, and financially viable industries. By working with brands that align with our vision, we aim to demonstrate that investing in female athletes is not just a social responsibility but a smart business decision that yields both visibility and engagement.
Frank Welfringer
— What concrete actions are you taking to change the perception of women’s sports in Morocco and beyond?
— Settling in Morocco allowed me to fully understand the challenges and opportunities surrounding women’s sports here. One of the key actions we take is building strong collaborations with media and influencers to increase visibility. We also organize high-profile events to showcase talent and prove that women’s sports are just as competitive and exciting as men’s. By changing how female athletes are presented and perceived, we create a ripple effect that influences sponsors, fans, and future generations of players.
Redefining Success in Sports Management
— What does success mean to you in sports management?
— Success in sports management isn’t just about winning trophies; it’s about creating lasting impact. For me, it means providing athletes with a professional support system that helps them grow both on and off the field. It’s about ensuring that they have access to quality coaching, sponsorship opportunities, and career guidance. If I can help build an environment where female athletes and MMA fighters can thrive and reach international recognition, then I consider that a true success.
— How do you motivate athletes to overcome challenges and unlock their full potential?
— Challenges are inevitable in high-level sports, but they can also be powerful catalysts for growth. Motivation is not just about words of encouragement; it’s about creating a structure that allows athletes to push through difficulties with a clear sense of purpose. We focus on goal setting, individualized coaching, and psychological support to ensure that athletes not only stay motivated but also develop the resilience needed to succeed in the long run.

The Role of Media and the Future of Women’s Sports
— What role do media play in promoting women’s sports, and how can brands contribute to this transformation?
— Media representation is crucial for the growth of women’s sports. The more exposure female athletes receive, the more they can attract sponsorships, fans, and future talent. Unfortunately, women’s sports still receive far less coverage than men’s. That’s why we actively work to increase visibility through strategic media partnerships, content creation, and event organization. Brands, in turn, can accelerate this transformation by investing in female athletes, featuring them in campaigns, and integrating them into their marketing strategies as ambassadors of performance and resilience.
— What are your long-term goals for the development of women’s sports and MMA? How do you envision these disciplines in ten years?
— My long-term vision is to establish Morocco as a leading hub for women’s sports and MMA. In the next ten years, I hope to see fully structured women’s football leagues, Moroccan fighters competing at the highest levels in MMA, and a shift in mindset where female athletes are viewed as equals in the sports industry. To achieve this, we need to invest in training facilities, increase professional opportunities, and continue pushing for media representation. The potential is there—it’s up to us to make it a reality.
I thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, for allowing me to settle in Morocco.
